The aim of this project is to characterize the Mesozoic to Cenozoic basaltic volcanic districts in central Mongolia, to unravel their mantle source region, how the magmas evolved though the crust and which were their relationships with the geodynamic setting of the area. We performed a sampling campaign in summer 2019, thanks to the collaboration with Uondon Majigsuren (Mongolian University of Science and Technology) and Antonio Alberti (University of Trieste, retired).

Samples are now in our labs and we are up and running with analyses and geological interpretations.
